Troubleshooting Common Issues

โŒ File Won't Convert

Common causes and solutions:

  • โ€ข Invalid file format: Ensure file has .vcf extension and contains vCard data
  • โ€ข Corrupted file: Try opening in text editor to check if readable
  • โ€ข Large file size: Files over 50MB may cause browser performance issues
  • โ€ข Browser compatibility: Use Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge with JavaScript enabled

โš ๏ธ Missing Contact Data

If some fields are missing:

  • โ€ข Non-standard fields: Custom fields may not map to standard CSV columns
  • โ€ข Encoding issues: Special characters may not display correctly
  • โ€ข Multiple values: Multiple phone numbers/emails may be combined or truncated
  • โ€ข Empty fields: Blank contact fields will appear as empty CSV cells

๐Ÿ”ง Character Encoding Problems

For special characters and international names:

  • โ€ข Export as UTF-8: When creating VCF files, use UTF-8 encoding
  • โ€ข Excel compatibility: Some versions of Excel may not handle UTF-8 correctly
  • โ€ข Alternative: Google Sheets: Generally handles international characters better
  • โ€ข Re-export: Try exporting VCF from original source with UTF-8 encoding

โœ… Best Practices

For optimal conversion results:

  • โ€ข Clean source data: Remove duplicate or incomplete contacts first
  • โ€ข Test with small files: Try a few contacts first to verify output format
  • โ€ข Backup originals: Always keep a copy of your original VCF file
  • โ€ข Check output: Review converted CSV file before using in other applications

Frequently Asked Questions

What VCF versions are supported?

Our converter supports all major VCF versions including vCard 2.1, 3.0, and 4.0. It automatically detects the version and processes the contacts accordingly.

Will all contact fields be preserved?

The converter extracts all standard contact fields including names, phone numbers, emails, addresses, organizations, and notes. Custom fields may be included as additional columns.

Can I import the CSV into Excel or Google Sheets?

Yes! The generated CSV file is fully compatible with Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc, and other spreadsheet applications. Just open the file or use the import function.

How do I handle large contact files?

For files with thousands of contacts, the conversion may take a few seconds. Files up to 50MB are supported, but larger files may cause browser performance issues on older devices.

Can I convert multiple VCF files at once?

Currently, the converter processes one file at a time. To combine multiple VCF files, first merge them into a single VCF file, or convert each separately and combine the CSV files.

What about contact photos and custom ringtones?

CSV format doesn't support embedded images or audio files. Contact photos and custom ringtones will not be included in the converted CSV file.
